Unlocking the Door to Your Real Self-Image

Mentors - Maxwell Maltz

Be a good parent to yourself; throw off the chains of over-caution and unlock the door to a self-image that has room to expand!

LEARN A LESSON FROM THIS STORY; let it help you....

Your self-image will be strong only when you unlock the door to your human feelings –and human failings. Otherwise, you will be masked, like a criminal about to break into a bank.

Assuming that you are not a bank robber, you have no need for a mask –not basically anyway. Your feelings are not so dreadful that you need to inhibit them constantly. If you think they are, it is your thinking that needs revision, not your feelings.

If you bury your feelings deep inside you, you cannot have an accurate self-image, because you cannot possibly know what you're really like. You can only know what you're pretending to be.

If you're at a party, explaining a heartfelt idea to some people and they frown, do you stop talking or change the subject? You must develop the power of your own convictions and stop looking to others for approval or recognition. Otherwise you will choke off your self-expression and hide behind a mask, crushing your creative self.

Many people were squelched as children and have come to feel that they are unimportant. They constantly take a back seat to others, feeling that they are failures and suffering from a deep sense of inferiority.

IF THIS DESCRIBES YOU, BURY THE PAST AND THROW OFF ALL YOUR WRAPS! ASSERT YOUR RIGHT TO BE AN INDIVIDUAL!

Be a good parent to yourself; throw off the chains of over-caution and unlock the door to a self-image that has room to expand!
